WooCommerce offers various tools to make the shipping process of your online store. Shipping can be a complex aspect of running an online store. But WooCommerce has a shipping class tool that will help you customize shipping options for each product easily. You just need to add shipping classes from the Shipping option and then assign products to specific classes from the Product page setting.
In this step-by-step guide, we’ll explore how to use shipping classes in WooCommerce to streamline your shipping process.
How to Use Shipping Classes in WooCommerce?
The usage of shipping classes on the WooCommerce site includes:
- Add Shipping Class to WooCommerce
- Assign Shipping Class to Products
- Edit or Delete the Shipping class
How to Add Shipping Classes to Your WooCommerce First
Open your dashboard to get started with WooCommerce shipping class customization. Go to Settings from the fly window of WooCommerce.
Here from the top menu, you have to go to the shipping class option and click Add Shipping Classes,
Shipping > Shipping Classes > Add Shipping Classes
Then you will get the following window with the popped-up options, Shipping Class, Slug, and Descriptions. Fill them up with proper wording and click Save Shipping Class.
- Set a relevant name that easily distinguishes the product class, i.e.: heavy-weight.
- Slug is the unique keyword of any URL address to refer to the shipping class. Though slug is created automatically if you don’t enter anything here, it is better to add yourself.
- Description won’t be visible to your customer. You can use it as an important note for that class name.
How to Add Shipping Classes to Products
Well! When you added the shipping classes to your site, now you have one more thing remaining. You have to set your products to the relevant shipping class. If you have already added the products to your site, you can now only define their class from your product page.
You can add shopping classes to products in two ways; add shipping class to a single product or add to multiple products at a time.
Add Shipping Class to Single Product
Go to Product from the sidebar of your dashboard. You will find the edit button when hovering on any already added product from the list.
Select Edit and scroll down the page and you will find the Product Data section. Go to Shipping from this section and you will find the Shipping Class option.
If you want to add a new product to your site you have to click the Add New button from this page instead of editing any product. In this case, you have to fill up all the details about the product and scroll down for the Shipping Class as we already said.
Click the Drop-down menu and you will find the list of the shipping classes you have already added from the shipping class setting.
Now Choose the shipping class from the list for specific products and scroll up again to find the Update option at the top right corner. Click update to update all the settings.
You can follow the above steps to add shipping class to products when you add a new product to your website. However, for existing products adding shipping class to all one by one is quite inconvenient and time-consuming. Hence there is another way to add shipping to multiple products at the same time.
Add Shipping Class to Multiple Products at a Time
From the product page, you can assign a Shipping class to multiple products at the same time. You will find a drop-down menu at the top right corner with Bulk Acting; click Edit from the menu.
Now select the products for those you want to assign the same shipping class. Then click the Apply button and you will be taken to another window.
From the bottom right corner of the window, find the Shipping Class option with a drop-down menu.
Choose the suitable shipping class for the selected products from the drop-down menu and then scroll down to click the Update button to publish the setting.
Once you click the update button, your site is ready to show the changes to your users.
How to Edit or Delete Shipping Class
If you want to delete or edit any shipping class, Go to:
WooCommerce> Setting> Shipping> Shipping Class
Then you will get the list of classes you have already added. Hover over the class names and you will see two options, Edit or Remove.
If you want to delete any specific shipping class you have to click Remove and then click the Save Shipping Class button from the bottom left.
For editing, you have to click Edit and update the name, slug, or description and then click the Save Shipping Class button to update all the settings.
